A trip to Liverpool
Liverpool has an eclectic image as a major industrial city in the northwest of England. As well as being the home of The Beatles and the world famous Liverpool Football Club, this seaside city and its ports and docks have played an important role in history. Today, the Albert Dock is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a lovely area to stroll and enjoy the sights. Liverpool John Lennon Airport is a major transportation hub for the northwest of England.
Flights to Liverpool
Arrival to Liverpool is via Liverpool John Lennon Airport, which was formerly known as Speke Airport. The airport is located roughly eight miles southeast of the city centre and transportation from the airport is easy and convenient. Although there is no railway station directly at the airport, there is a bus link to Liverpool South Parkway Station from where trains leave for Liverpool Central Station. The journey into the city via train takes 15 minutes. Buses are also a convenient way to get into the city. Departing from right outside the Arrivals Terminal building, Airlink 500 takes visitors directly to Liverpool city centre, departing every 20 minutes. Airlink 700 goes to Manchester. Liverpool has a good public transportation network with buses, trains and ferries. Taxis are also abundant and are reasonably priced for short distances. Using the ferry is a great way to explore and experience Liverpool. Mersey Ferries offer a range of excursions and cruises which are well worth taking.

Sightseeing in Liverpool
Liverpool, also known as a ‘Capital of Culture’, offers plenty to do and see. There are most listed buildings in Liverpool than in any other city in England, with the exception of London. The two cathedrals in the city, Anglican Cathedral and Metropolitan Cathedral, are key attractions. For museum lovers, there is plenty on offer such as the World Museum Liverpool, Walker Art Gallery, Tate Liverpool and Merseyside Maritime Museum.
If you are a Beatles fan, Liverpool is the place to be. There are many Beatles tours on offer in the city, taking visitors to the most important sites such as Penny lane, Strawberry Fields and Cavern Club. Don’t miss The Beatles Story, which showcases The Beatles history. The audio guide is narrated by John Lennon’s sister, and visitors can see a range of photographs and original memorabilia of the band.
Fun by night – eating drinking and partying
Liverpool offers a vibrant and diverse nightlife. The city boasts more than 250 bars and clubs, so there is something for everyone here. There are plenty of live music venues, dance clubs, restaurants, trendy bars and pubs to be explored. For bars, head to Albert Dock where popular bars include Pan Am and Baby Blue. The vibrant club scene means that new venues are continually popping up. However, the established favourites are Society, Krazyhouse and Zanzibar.
Fun by day - shopping and activities
Liverpool is a haven for shoppers. The city centre boasts all the usual British chain shops and brands. The Cavern Walks Designer Shopping Centre on Matthew street is where you can spend some serious money. Here, you will also find From Me To You, the official Beatles merchandise shop. The Met quarter and Albert Dock are considered hip and trendy areas in which to pick up one-pd-a-kind items.
