Aeroflot is a Russian airline and the country’s national carrier as well as its biggest provider of air travel. Its operations are based at Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow and its corporate headquarters are located adjacent to the Aerostar Hotel in central Moscow.

The airline’s history is a lengthy one having been born out of the Chief Administration of the Civil Air Fleet that was established in 1921. Flight operations commenced in 1923 and by the end of the 1930s it had grown to become the world’s largest airline. In 1994, the Russian government sold 49% of its holding in the company to its employees and Aeroflot was hence registered as a joint stock company. The 1990s saw concentration on international routes while the turn of the century saw the network expanded to include more domestic destinations.

The airline operates a mixed fleet comprising a large number of Airbus and Boeing models as well as six Ilyushin Il-96-300s, 11 Tupolev Tu-134-A and –Bs and 26 Tupolev Tu-154-M and –Bs. Orders are currently pending for 45 Sukhoi Superjet 100s, 22 Boeing 787s and a number of various models of Airbus.

On board with Aeroflot, passengers will find a high standard of service with cabin crew members dedicated to their safety and comfort. Whether travelling business or economy class, passengers receive complimentary food and drinks with the former comprising cooked or cold meals and the latter comprising soft and alcoholic beverages plus tea or coffee.

Depending on factors such as the aircraft they are travelling on, the journey they are making and the class of seat they have booked, passengers can enjoy in-flight entertainment via the DigEplayer portable media centre. Up to 30 movies are available for viewing as well as popular television shows, documentaries and audio material.
